Support Our Work
As a grassroots organization, 100% of your donations to the University Heights Historical Society will be used toward expert fees (such as historic reports) and communications expenses like web hosting, email software, graphic design, and printing. There are no paid staff, just caring neighbors who support our mission. As a 501(c)(3) organization, contributions or gifts to the University Heights Historical Society are tax-deductible, to the extent provided by law.
Become a Member
Join the University Heights Historical Society and support our efforts to educate, preserve, and advocate for our community’s significant heritage. New or renewing members are entitled to a free copy of one of our self-guided walking tours: Historic Churches in University Heights, Historic Normal School Site, or Valle Vista Terrace Historic District. Please indicate your choice on the survey that follows the donation form.
$15: Individual one year membership. Includes one walking tour.
$25: Household one year membership. Includes two copies of the same walking tour.
$40: Business one year membership. Includes two copies of the same walking tour.
Normal School Site Heritage Fund
100% of donations to the Normal School Site Heritage Fund will be used for the following projects. Asterisked projects are subject to approval by the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education (SDUSD):
Hire an architect to create a site plan for consideration by SDUSD staff and architects that preserves as many historic buildings and heritage trees as possible.
Restore heritage oak tree in front of Annex 3 by carefully removing asphalt currently covering tree roots.*
Design and install interpretive signage at the site of the former Normal School, the remaining Annex buildings, and at the site of the former streetcar line along Normal Street.*
Design and install educational exhibits inside Annex 1 interpreting the history of the Normal School site and the streetcar along Normal Street.*
Install a kiosk at the gateway entrance to the site for posting community and educational information.*
